The Patient With No Name

by Rachel McGarr

By Rachel McGarr and Kayla Gershov

The patient with no name is a multimedia zine exploring the growing tension between efficiency-driven healthcare systems and the lived realities of patients, families, and frontline workers in Ontario. Through interviews with nurses, patients and families with firsthand experience, and the Health Critic of Ontario, the project brings together perspectives that are rarely presented side by side. Grounded in both research and lived experience, this work is shaped by the dual-perspective narrative brought to the table by its creators, Kayla Gershov and Rachel McGarr. Their personal and professional connections cover both patient and provider perspectives. Rather than placing blame, the project aims to move beyond simplified narratives and instead reveal how systemic pressures shape everyday moments of care.
