Queer Punk Zine!

Throughout its lengthy history as a cultural hub for Canadian artists, Toronto cultivated a large queer community. This, along with the rise of the punk scene in the late 70s, became the catalyst for what is now known as the “queer core” movement. Bruce La Bruce coined that iconic term. La Bruce, a famed Indie director and creator of the iconic zine “J.D.s”, and the band Fifth Column (shoutout Caroline Azar) were just some of the characters that made this queer punk scene so lively. The zine below aims to take you back to this era of queer culture, one with many late nights at the Rivoli and a whole lot of studded leather. Crafted from interviews with local legends, with some historical context, and a whole bunch of ‘punk-inspired’ art, the work harkens back to an infamous time.
